FAUN TRACKWAY – the defence division of FAUN MV – has secured a contract with the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) to design and build a new side fairing accessory for its fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.
The new component will act as an upgrade to the UK's existing stock of FAUN's Rapid Runway Repair (RRR) matting, allowing it to be used by the Euro Fighter.
The MoD is expected to begin tests with 15 sets of FAUN's new fairing panels over the coming months.
The UK currently uses FAUN's RRR system to bring airfields damaged by conflict back into use.
FAUN first developed the RRR matting system in 1971 following an operational requirement from the Military Vehicles and Engineering Establishment, Christchurch. RRR matting is a vital element of the airfield damage repair process – which is included as one of the five essential elements of "Survive to Operate‟.
The business – which is based in North Wales - has continued to re-engineer its products in order to keep pace with the latest technology in the defence sector.
Last year, the UK Government confirmed that it planned to purchase 40 new Eurofighters. The aircraft first came into service in 2003.
Chris Kendall, business development manager from FAUN TRACKWAY, said: “In the defence industry, it is often the smaller and more dynamic firms such as ourselves that are able to drive innovation rather than the global giants.
“Our engineers have a long history of working with the UK MoD, as well as other clients, to develop new products that meet the demands of the latest military technology, like the Eurofighter.”
